To chorèsci tze cinùria zoì / The rebirth dance
I painted this mural artwork in Gallipoli, Italy for @ohmyg.a.d dell’associazione @faroconlaccento in partnership with 167bstreet.
The title of the mural is in grico, a national recognized language based on the mix of Greek and local dialect spoken in this southern part of Italy.
For those who doesn’t know, my home town lies not so far from this place and we share a common heritage and that’s from where I digged to create the image of the mural.
The character deeply inspired by the Taranta, a tradional dance of this area, is moving around the agave plant, here imported in the 16th century and spread through out all the region.
The Agave plant bloom once in his life time marking both the time of its death and the time of its reborn through a new generation of plants formed from its roots.
Who we are now is located close to a city park unfortunately not really in the best condition, and that’s what pushes the association to work on this place, to give it a sign, to show a possible rebirth.
